One of the most-loved American holidays is right around the corner; Thanksgiving. There is nothing better than spending quality time with family and friends, giving thanks, and stuffing yourself with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie.
Since Thanksgiving is such a great time of year, you don’t want to put yourself into a stressful situation by putting something harmful down your kitchen drain amidst all of the cooking. We know that you would rather spend time with your family and friends than with us this Thanksgiving, so read these tips in order to avoid a plumbing disaster.
Be sure to avoid putting potato peels, carrot peels, or celery down your garbage disposal on Turkey Day. These items are all big no-no’s that will cause big problems and clogging for your sink situation. Sauces, gravy, and turkey skin also should not make their way down your drain if you would prefer plumbing peace. Sauces and gravy often contain significant amounts of grease and fat that can stick to your drain pipes.
When you’re doing the big clean up at the end of the meal, make sure that no silverware accidentally makes its way down your disposal as well. You’ll be doing lots of dishes and it is very easy for a knife to slip off of a plate and down the drain. Metal can be very harmful to your drain.
If your garbage disposal does clog up or begin having issues, try to hit the reset button and see if that improves anything. Running ice cubes down the disposal can sometimes be helpful as well.
